FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the best age for a child to start piano lessons?
A. Every child is different, but generally speaking, starting at age 6 or 7 is best as students have developed a sufficient hand size and attention span by then. It is also helpful if they know the first 7 letters of the alphabet, can count up to five and know the difference between their left and right hand.
Q. How much do lessons cost?
A. Lessons are $32 per weekly 30-minute lesson. No GST is charged on piano lessons per Revenue Canada guidelines. The cost of books is extra, are purchased on your behalf and charged back to you at cost.
Multiple Student Discounts: For 2 students with back-to-back lessons in the same household, $29.25 per half-hour lesson per student; For 3 students, $27.75 per half-hour lesson; For 4 students, $26.25 per half-hour lesson.
Q. We only have a keyboard not a piano. Will that be ok?
A. Beginning students must have a proper acoustic piano or digital keyboard upon which to practice. In the case of the latter, the keyboard must have a minimum of 61-keys and be touch-sensitive. (i.e. The volume of the sound varies with the amount of pressure applied to the key.)
While a keyboard is acceptable at the start, a proper acoustic/digital piano (with 88 keys) is required for students to progress beyond the Grade One RCM level and be eligible for conservatory exams and music festival competitions. A keyboard is not recommended beyond the first two years of instruction.
Q. Do you also teach out of your own studio?
A. No. I drive out to the homes of all my students in order to teach the lessons.
Q. Do you teach adult beginners?
A. Yes, I do. And with pleasure! It is never too late to learn!
